Tradescantia subaspera, or Zigzag Spiderwort, is native to approximately the eastern 1/3 of the US. It is a perennial that grows in partially shaded woods and along woodland edges, as well as bluffs, slopes and stream edges. It blooms in late spring into mid to late summer with purple flowers that fade in the heat of the sun.
