Plantago cordata, or Heartleaf Plantain, is native to parts of the eastern US, mostly centered on the Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley, but also into the Ozarks. It is a perennial that grows in floodplains forests, in streams and on streambanks and in swamps. It blooms in early spring into late spring with non-showy yellow flowers; it has small leaves in winter that change over the season to large heart-shaped leaves by summer.
