Heteranthera multiflora, or Mud Plantain, is native to the Central US, with a rare disjunct population on the east coast of the Carolinas and New Jersey. It is an annual that grows in swamps, streambanks, pond margins, ditches and shallow water. It blooms from mid summer into fall, with stems of small purple-blue flowers.

This plant looks similar to some other members of the genus. More information will be posted at a later time about differentiating other species.
