Chrysopsis gossypina, or Cottony Goldenaster, is native to the southeastern US. It is a short-lived perennial that grows in dry, sandy soils along roadsides, fields, in open prairies, clearings, glades and along woodland edges. It blooms in summer into fall with golden yellow flowers.
