Chelone obliqua, or Red Turtlehead, is native most of the area called the Ohio River Valley, though it is absent from Ohio, and additionally is present in Illinois and Missouri. It is a perennial that grows in wet areas, like ditches, swales, pond and lake margins, swamps, bogs and fens. It blooms in late summer into fall, and despites its common name, its flowers are light to park pink (not red).
