Symphyotrichum subulatum, or Eastern Saltmarsh Aster, is native to the eastern coastal states from Texas up to Maine, as well as the Great Lakes states . It is an annual that grows in moist areas, like marshes and swamps, particularly those high in salt content. It blooms from late summer into fall, with small purple flowers.
This plant looks similar to some other members of the genus. More information will be posted at a later time about differentiating other species.
