Solidago radula, or Western Rough Goldenrod, is native to the South-Central US, and is also found in a couple of very local, disjunct areas of the Southeast. It is a perennial that grows in open woods and along woodland edges, as well as in openings, bluffs, glades, savannas and roadsides. It begins blooming in late summer into fall with golden yellow flowers.
There are over 100 species of Solidago in the United States, and they can be very difficult to tell apart. More information and comparison photos will be posted at a later time, showing similar species. But for the time being, you can access our Solidago ID chart which shows various images of over twenty species to help with ID.
