Ribes americanum, or American Black Currant, is native to the northern half of the United States, as well as part of the southern Rocky Mountain area. It is a perennial shrub, that grows in moist woods, swamps and along streams. It blooms in mid to late spring and early summer with cream or off-white flowers.
