Pinguicula vulgaris, or Butterwort, is native only to Alaska and the northern parts of Michigan, and a handful of counties in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Maine, Vermont, New York and New Hampshire. It is a carnivorous perennial that grows in moist, sandy shores, bogs and fens. It blooms in late spring to mid summer with light purple flowers.
