Oenothera laciniata, or Cutleaf Evening Primrose, is native to almost the entire United States, except the Pacific Northwest, and is absent from Nevada and Utah and considered adventive in California. It is usually an annual, but can also be a short-lived perennial; it grows in waste places, yards, along crop fields, woodland edges and the like, often in disturbed soil. It blooms off and on throughout the growing season, with light yellow flowers that open at dusk and frequently stay open all night and fade in the sunlight of the following morning.
More information will be made available soon about this species and telling it apart from others.
