Oenothera berlandieri, or Berlandier's Evening Primrose, is native to the south-central United States. It is a perennial that grows in open prairies, meadows, along roadsides, and in glades outcrops and clearings. It has bright yellow flowers in late spring through summer.
This species somehow has been confused with a garden cultivar which the garden trade calls "Oenothera berlandieri 'Siskiyou'" - this cultivar is NOT a variant of O. berlandieri, but rather is a form of another native Evening Primrose, Oenothera speciosa. The two species are quite dissimilar, and it is not exactly clear how this happened, but the one pictured here is the correct species for "Oenothera berlandieri."
More information will be made available soon about this species and telling it apart from others.
