Lobelia spicata, or Spiked Lobelia, is native to most of the eastern two-thirds of the United States, except Florida. It grows in moist open meadows, ditches and prairies, in sandy soil. It blooms in early to mid summer, with small pale blue, sometimes almost white, flowers.
This plant can be identified by its single spike of flowers, the pale-blue color of its flowers, and its earlier bloom time at the start of spring.
