Layia platyglossa, or Tidytips, is a annual native to the Western US. It grows in grasslands, prairies, fields and open pine forests, and blooms in early spring.

This is one of a group of about fifteen species from the west - this particular species is one of two that can be found outside California, the rest are confined only to California. This species can be partially distinguished from others by its flowers which have white tips at the end of yellow petals, but there are several other species in the genus that have this, also. More information on distinguishing them will be posted at a later time.
