Hydrophyllum capitatum, or Ballhead Waterleaf, is native to about the western third of the United States. It grows in open woods, as well as woodland edges. It blooms in mid to late spring with blueish purple flowers. It is an ephemeral, which means that it disappears completely under the ground after blooming and setting seed, until the following season.
