Goodyera pubescens, or Downy Rattlesnake Plantain, is native to most of the Eastern US. It is a perennial orchid that has very tuberous roots and grows in moist to dry woods, and edges of woods, almost always where there is a lot of leaf litter. It blooms in mid to late summer with spikes of small white flowers. The foliage is perhaps more well known than the flowers, as it has a familiar and beloved checker pattern.
More information will be made available soon about this species and telling it apart from others.
