Dodecatheon amethystinum, or Amethyst Shooting Star, is native to, but rare, in the Great Lakes Area, where it grows along the state lines of Minnestoa, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illionois, as well as a disjunct population in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. It is a perennial, and ephemeral, that grows on moist limestone slopes. It blooms in mid to late spring with bright purple-pink flowers.
