Chimaphila maculata, or Spotted Wintergreen, is native to the eastern third of the US, and is also rare but present in southern Arizona. It is a perennial that grows in dry, acidic woods (often pine), and on woodland edges, bluffs and slopes in mountainous areas. It blooms in late spring and early summer with white flowers.
